Baberton Golf Club was founded in 1893 and the course was initially laid out by Willie Park Jnr., a two-times Open Champion, and later reconstructed by James Braid. As a result Baberton is a challenging and beautiful layout on undulating terrain with spectacular views of the Pentland Hills to the south, the Ochil Hills and Forth Bridges to the north, and Edinburgh Castle and the Edinburgh skyline to the east.

The Club has a great history with many characters and one of the founder members, Thomas Horsburgh, a local blacksmith, invented the first steel-shafted clubs in the world taking out a U.K. patent in 1894. A copy of the patent and the clubs are on display in the Clubhouse.

The New Clubhouse has a magnificent view over the course and the surrounding countryside and offers a friendly welcoming atmosphere with the provision of first class, freshly prepared meals and snacks and a good selection of wines, beers and spirits. Baberton welcomes new members, youngsters, new players taking up the game for first time and visitors. We are confident that for anyone playing the course for the first time and for the members, Baberton is a special golfing experience to savour.
